Phi Phi Island by Speedboat Tour
Our Phi Phi Island Snorkeling & Sightseeing Tour begins with a pick up from your hotel at 6.10 am (depending on the location of your hotel), arriving at the pier around 7.30 am. We leave early to avoid the worst crowds, and first stop is usually Maya Bay, the beautiful location of the movie "The Beach". Here we can swim, walk to the look out to view the beautiful Lo Sama Bay and take the photos you have dreamed about. Whenever possible we arrive early to avoid the crowds, and we are leaving the beach as many other boats are arriving.
For our next activity we pick the best snorkeling spot on the day depending upon tides, wind direction and what the other tour boats are doing. There are great places at both Phi Phi Le and Phi Phi Don for snorkeling. At this time we will see a myriad of beautiful tropical fish, often seeing a family of clown fish (Nemo!).
On our way to lunch we pass the famous Viking Cave, once inhabited by seafarers, fishermen and maybe even pirates. We can no longer go inside the cave as it is now preserved for the bird's nest collection industry, but we can see the cave from outside. Bird's nests are an age old ingredient of Chinese medicine and cuisine. The nests, made from the saliva of swallows, are believed by many (not Mark) to increase longevity, promote beauty and help Dad to make babies, if you know what I mean.
The next stop is a small beach where we can usually see monkeys, the crab eating macaques. We can't always go ashore here as the monkeys can be aggressive, but we usually do get close up to the monkeys.
Lunch is at our favourite restaurant at the quiet end of a white sand beach on the main Phi Phi Don Island. Dishes are served hot and cooked fresh on arrival. We usually serve massaman curry, green chicken curry, stir-fried mixed vegetables, seafood cashew nut, chicken and cashew nuts, whole fried fish, fried rice, french fries (chips), and fried chicken (for the kids).
After lunch we seek out one more snorkeling spot, where again we snorkel for 30 minutes or so, amongst thousands of beautiful fish.
Our last stop is usually the very pretty and undeveloped Bamboo Island. Here we can swim, laze on the long white sand beach or explore the island before heading home.
We return to the pier around 4.00 pm and have you back at your hotel by around 5:00 pm.
There is a video of a typical Phi Phi Island Snorkeling and Sightseeing Tour by speedboat tour here, please note there may be some changes on the day.
Please note: the program on the day of your tour will also depend upon the weather, tide, and what other tour boats are doing. The description herein is the tour we most often provide our guests, but there may be variations on the day.
Please note: Guys, a bit of stubble makes it almost impossible to get the mask to seal when snorkeling. If you want to enjoy snorkeling and don't want your mask to leak shaving your top lip will help. Failing that lip balm or paw paw ointment will help get a seal.
